Most importantly, at this stage, have you chosen or are you working with an architect or designer?
The architect will take what you envision and put it into reality in the form of building plans. The more thorough and detailed those plans are, the better a builder is able to map out a realistic cost estimate and timeframe for construction. This cannot be underemphasized enough.
SCM has relationships with several trusted sources for building plans or is happy to work with your chosen architect and design. We can also help as you create your plans by providing input and advice. This can help design a plan within the budget. Our goal is to work as a team from beginning to end.
Once a solid set of building plans are developed, it is time to visit with the builder.
Cost estimates based on your plans can now be established. Questions may arise concerning building materials, fit and finishes desired, and a realistic timeframe for construction. The more you can share with the builder, the better a plan can be set in motion. Barring unforeseen delays of weather, permitting or materials, you are on your way to breaking ground on the home of your dreams!
The fun really begins when you start choosing selections of flooring, counters, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and hardware.
Chris’s wife, Sue, has been a Realtor in Houston for many years. She takes pride in staying up on the latest trends in housing and has an eye for detail. Sue has worked with numerous clients in the past with the selection process as needed. We are also happy to work with the interior designer of your choice. It is this stage of the process that brings personality to your design.
